2017 FCC Club Championship: The Results

In a 36-hole match-play championship, Steve Hazelip took the title of the 2017 FCC Club Champion after defeating the defending champion, Troy Wilson. Hazelip’s win makes for his second Club Champion title, his first being in 2015, while Wilson was trying for his third title after his wins in 2014 and 2016.

Wilson was three-up after the first five holes but Hazelip took the next three holes to square the match. On the back nine, Wilson won holes 10 and 11 for a two-up lead, but Hazelip won holes 16, 17, and 18 to finish the first round up by one. Hazelip then extended his lead to five-up through 25 holes before Wilson mounted a charge and shot four birdies throughout the next seven holes to cut the lead to one. Hazelip then birdied the 33rd hole to go back up by two in the lead until Wilson won the next hole to once again trim the lead back to one. After they both settled for par on the 35th hole, they headed for the final hole with Hazelip still leading by one. Hazelip made a 20 foot birdie putt to close out the match.

Before playing each other in the final round of the championship flight, Hazelip defeated Gary Woodward in round one, Bronson Norwood in round two, and Clay Spears in the semi-finals, while Wilson advanced with wins over Chuck Porter in round one, Brandon Fykes in round two, and Hunter Bowen in the semi-finals.
